Find Journal Articles

Use these freely available databases to access information from magazines, academic journals, government agencies and trade associations. Some of the databases provide access to full-text online articles while others provide only an abstract or a citation to articles, books and other media.   Database for African periodical literature and African women's literature.
• African Women's Bibliographic Database
  Database for African women's literature. Part of Africabib.org
• AgeLine
  Produced by AARP. A searchable electronic database containing detailed summaries of publications about older adults and aging, including books, journal and magazine articles, research reports, and videos.
• AGRICOLA
  National Agricultural Library. Citations with abstracts to journal articles and other materials dealing with agriculture.
• arXiv.org E-Print Archive
  Maintained by Cornell University. ArXiv is an e-print service in the fields of physics, mathematics, non-linear science, computer science, and quantitative biology.
• Astrophysics Data System
  Citations, abstracts, links to full text in astronomy, astrophysics, geophysics.
• BioMed Central
  An independent publishing house committed to providing immediate free access to peer-reviewed biomedical research.
• CAIRSS for Music
  Computer Assisted Information Retrieval Service System. Article citations for journals in music education, music psychology, music therapy, and music medicine.
• Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (CGP)
  The CGP is the finding tool for federal publications that includes descriptive records for historical and current publications and provides direct links to those that are available online.
• CE Database
  American Society of Civil Engineers' (ASCE) electronic information retrieval service to all its publications since 1970.
• Congressional Research Service Reports
  Research reports prepared for members of the U.S. Congress.
• DDM-Online
  Doctoral Dissertations in Musicology. Citations for musicology dissertations including reported dissertations-in-progress.
• Delphion Intellectual Property Network
  Patent data and images from around the world. Basic searching is free.
• Directory of Open Access Journals
  Maintained by Lund University Libraries. This service covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. DOAJ aims to cover all subjects and languages.
• The English Short Title Catalogue (ESTC)
  The ESTC lists over 460,000 items published between 1473 and 1800; mainly in Britain and North America; mainly, but not exclusively, in English; and from the collections of the British Library and over 2,000 other libraries.
• ERIC
  Database of the Educational Resource Information Center, a federally-funded national information system that provides information on a broad range of education-related issues.
• Fed in Print
  An Index to Federal Reserve Economic Research
• FINDarticles
  1998 - present. Full-text access to articles in over 350 magazines and journals. Emphasis on business and current events.
• Free Medical Journals
  Created to promote the free availability of full text medical journals on the Internet. Journal titles are sorted by specialty and alphabetically by title. Multiple languages are covered.
• Google Scholar
  Includes "scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all broad areas of research." Here are some tips for using Google Scholar.
• GPO Access
  Provides access to U.S. Government legislative, executive, judicial, regulatory and other publications.
• GrayLIT Network
  A science portal of technical reports. The GrayLIT Network makes the gray literature of U.S. Federal Agencies easily accessible over the Internet. It enables the user to find information without first having to know the sponsoring agency.
• HighWire Press, Internet Imprint of the Stanford University Libraries
  Provides access to e-journals and articles in the fields of the biological, medical, physical and social sciences. Some journal titles are available only with a subscription.
• HLAS Online
  Handbook of Latin American Studies. Annual bibliography by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress. Alternates annually between the social sciences and the humanities.
• Index of Articles on Jewish Studies
  A selective bibliography of articles in the various fields of Jewish studies and in the study of Eretz Israel.
• Ingenta
  Current article information from over 25,000+ journals. Note: Some electronic journals listed in Ingenta are available to the WU community. Use the Library Catalog to verify subscriptions to specific electronic journals.
• Labordoc
  Contains references to print and electronic publications from countries around the world on subject areas including the work-related aspects of economic and social development and human rights. Compiled and maintained by the International Labour Organization Library.
• Literature of the Nonprofit Sector
  Searchable database of the literature of philanthropy.
• NCJRS Abstracts Database
  National Criminal Justice Reference Service. Full text available and a periodical index. Citations and abstracts in criminal justice and law enforcement.
• NCJRS Virtual Library
  National Criminal Justice Reference System. More than 7000 full-text publications from the National Criminal Justice Reference System and related federal agencies.
• NLM Gateway
  The NLM Gateway allows users to search in multiple retrieval systems at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). The current Gateway searches MEDLINE/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE, LOCATORplus, MEDLINEplus, ClinicalTrials.gov, DIRLINE, Meeting Abstracts, and HSRProj.
• NTIS: National Technical Information Service
  Citations, some including abstracts, to technical reports issued by government agencies and other sources.
• Obituary Daily Times
  A daily index to published obituaries.
• OECD Index
  Index to documents and publications issued by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
• Osterreichische historische Bibliographie : Austrian historical bibliography
  Available in German only.
• PATH: Intelligent Transportation Database (Berkeley)
  The index/abstract for intelligent transportation maintained by the Harner E. Davis Library, U of C at Berkeley.
• PubMed
  Access to Medline and other databases from the National Library of Medicine.
• Quarterly Index to African Periodical Literature
  An index of over 300 selected periodicals (mostly scholarly) which are acquired regularly from 29 African countries.
• Scholarly Journals Distributed Via the World Wide Web
  Maintained by the University of Houston Libraries. A directory providing links to established Web-based scholarly journals that offer access to English language article files without requiring user registration or fees.
• TRB Publications Index
  Transporation Research Board. Indexes and abstracts over 21,000 TRB publications and reports from 1970 to present.
• TRB Research in Progress
  An index/abstract of transportation research in progress.
• TRIS Online
  Citations to articles detailing research in transportation.
• UNBISnet
  The index to United Nations publications and documents published since 1979. It includes the catalog of the Dag Hammarskjöld Library, a database of voting records, and an index of speech citations.
• U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Web Patent Databases
  Bibliographic and full-text databases of U.S. patents.
