Pfeiffer Physics Library News
September, 2007

** News **

  • The Physics Library will be closed on Monday, September 3, 2007 for Labor Day.

  • Fall Semester Hours
    Monday - Thursday, 7:30 am - 6:00 pm
    Friday, 7:30 am - 5:00 pm
    Closed Saturdays and Sundays

  • Important changes to proxy service for off-campus research and to interlibrary loan:
    • New login and procedures for Off-Campus access to library databases and e-journals: http://library.wustl.edu/whatsnew/newproxyservice.html. Note: It is going to take awhile for us to edit links on all the library pages and blogs, but eventually this new procedure will be easier because you don't need to edit your browser settings. Please remove old proxy server settings if you have them. We are also working on a downloadable toolbar which will turn any link into a proxied link.
    • The library has changed the way you log on to ILLIAD (our interlibrary loan request system.) See http://library.wustl.edu/whatsnew/newilliadlogon.html for more information.

  • Changes in the Library Catalog -- Please review for information about search and display changes in the catalog.

  • Electronic Reserves - ERes is a web-based electronic reserves management system. With it you can manage course material on the web. Only reserve material in electronic format can be placed on ERes. Other course material may be placed on standard reserve in the Library. If you have any questions, please contact me or try the ERes help page.

  • Recently published papers in Physics - The following papers were recently indexed by INSPEC and published by members of the Physics Department:

    • Title: Comment on: "Chiral anomalies and rooted staggered fermions" [Phys. Lett. B 649 (2007) 230]
      Author(s): Bernard, C.; Golterman, M.; Shamir, Y.; Sharpe, S.R.
      Source: Physics Letters B vol.649, no.2-3 : 235-40, 31 May 2007

    • Title: X-ray and TeV gamma-ray emission from parallel electron-positron or electron-proton beams in BL Lacertae objects
      Author(s): Krawczynski, H.
      Source: Astrophysical Journal vol.659, no.2, pt.1 : 1063-73, 20 April 2007

**Recent Additions to the Library Web Pages**

[Suggestions are welcome!]

These additions are somewhere in the Physics and Astronomy Subject Guide [http://library.wustl.edu/subjects/physics/] portion of the Washington University Library web pages.

  • Physics to Go - a collection of more than 500 websites that you can search or browse to explore physics on your own. Essentially, this site is an excellent collection of websites where visitors can learn physics on their own through a variety of formats, including webcasts, online exhibits, and games. It's also a biweekly online magazine, with archives containing more than 55 selected physics images.
