- Physics Library Summer Hours begin Tuesday, May 22, 2007.
Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
Closed Saturdays and Sundays.
Closed holidays - Monday, May 28 and Wednesday, July 4.
Open 8:00-10:00am only on Staff Day, Monday, May 21. - Library Inventory - The annual inventory of Physics
Library material will be May 10-18, 2007. The Library will be
closed to everyone during this time. It is important that
all books be returned to the Library on or before 4:00 pm, May 9,
2007. If the inventory is completed ahead of schedule, the
Library will reopen early. Everyone's cooperation will expedite
the inventory.
- The American Astronomical Society has announced that the Institute of Physics will be the new publisher of the AAS journals beginning in January 2008. The affected journals are The Astronomical Journal, The Astrophysical Journal, and The Bulletin of the AAS. When I find out what the new URLs are, I will update the links on the website.
- The American Physical Society announced a substantially improved search interface
for the Physical Review Online Archive (PROLA), available now at
http://prola.aps.org/search. As always, APS's entire journal
collection from 1893-present is searchable via PROLA's interface.
- iTeach - The spring 2007 edition of Teaching and Technology, the ITeach newsletter, is now available online at http://iteach.wustl.edu/newsletters/sp07/. Highlights include ITeach 2008: Save the Date (Jan. 10, 2008) and Call for Proposals, a chemistry faculty profile highlighting strategies for using both hi-tech and conventional tools to improve student learning, New Study of Undergraduates and Information Technology (IT), how to set up email alerts in Keeping Up with Research and Current Events, Using YouTube in the Classroom, and more.

**Recent Additions to the Library Web Pages**
These additions are somewhere in the Physics
and Astronomy Subject Guide portion of the Washington University Library web pages.
- PhysMathCentral is a new open access publishing platform for the fields of physics, mathematics and computer science. They have announced that their first journal, PMC Physics A, is now open for submissions. Launched to meet the increasing need for open access journals from major research institutes, PhysMath Central seeks to make research in physics, mathematics and computer science more widely available and increase access to this research to all institutes and individuals, free of subscription charges. PhysMath Central will launch with three new open access journals in physics:
- PMC Physics A – covers particle, high-energy and nuclear physics, cosmology, gravity and astroparticle physics, and instrumentation and data analysis.
- PMC Physics B – publishes articles covering all aspects of atomic and molecular physics, optics, quantum physics, semiconductors and superconductivity.
- PMC Physics C – focuses on soft matter physics and covers biological physics, complex systems, plasmas and fluids, classical and interdisciplin ary physics, and statistical mechanics.
- Solar System - This is an interesting site showing "All (known) Bodies in the Solar System Larger than 200 Miles in Diameter"
