Services and Features

The Libraries' Website

There are workstations in our reading room with access to the Libraries' website for materials held by the WU Library System and for online databases. Among others, these databases include WorldCat (OCLC FirstSearch), RILM Abstracts, and Encyclopaedia Britannica Online. [Please note that some resources in the Libraries' website are only available to Washington University users.]

Online Services

A number of services such as Online Renewals, Interlibrary Loan Requests (books or articles), Online Reference Requests, and Book Order Requests can be requested through the submission of WorldWide Web forms.

Catalogs

The WU Libraries' Online Catalog includes virtually all music books, scores, periodicals, CDs, LPs, cassettes, and video recordings held in this and other libraries of the Hilltop and West Campuses.

The Supplementary Catalog provides access to our growing sheet music and composer manuscripts collections not listed in the main computer catalog.

Music Resources on the Internet

Selected Internet resources and additional bibliographic databases are available for many areas such as academic societies, institutes and associations, online projects including: Beethoven, chant, computer music, Latin musical terminology, dissertation information, music reference sources, music education resources, electronic and online publications, links to music libraries, as well as resources for popular music, rock 'n roll and jazz. [Please note that some resources in the Libraries' website are only available to Washington University users.]

Music Necrology

A musical necrology is available; you can use your browser to search it, or you may request a search of a specific name.

A new, third option: use the GoogleTM search engine to search the necrology:

Audio/Visual Equipment

Microform reader/printers, laserdisc players, videocassette players, and audio equipment are available for users with a currently validated Washington University I.D. Portable CD players are also available at the Gaylord Circulation Desk.

Photocopiers

A card-operated photocopier is available in Gaylord. Copies are $0.12 each. Cards may be purchased at the circulation desk in denominations of $0.50 and $1.50 (cost is $1 and $2 as the card itself costs $0.50). Dispensers for larger denominations and for adding credit to depleted cards are in Olin Library and (a little nearer to us) the Kopolow Business Library. The copier can reduce to as little as as 25%, or enlarge to as much as 800%, onto either US letter (8.5" x 11"), legal (8.5" x 14"), or oversize (11" x 17") size paper. (Ask the library staff if you need the oversize paper.)

Printer

A laser printer is networked to all public workstations. Printing costs $0.08 per single-sided sheet, or $0.12 per duplex sheet. Payment can be made through a Campus Card account (choose "Print with Campus Account G"), or with a copy card (choose "Local Black&White Printer").

New Items

A display of newly-cataloged books, scores is located behind the exhibit case on the east wall of the Reading Room.

Lost and Found

Lost & found items are held at the circulation desk until the end of the semester, then discarded.
