VHS Videocassettes and DVDs in the Biology Collection
We are often asked where the videos are located in the library. In the Biology Library, videotapes are shelved by call number among the books, unless they are on reserve for a particular course. This list is intended for easy, quick browsing, when you are looking for this format. It is arranged in call number order. To search by keyword or word fragment, use the "Find in Page" function of your browser, (ctrl-F in Netscape). For current status and location, please check the Catalog.
In addition to the videos on this list, we also have some videotaped class lectures each semester and some videotapes put on reserve, which are owned by the professor or the Biology Dept. Lists of those videos can be found on the reserve lists for those classes, such as Biology 109, 296, 297, 3051. See: currently active biology course reserve lists. See also: Policies about lecture video viewing.
Videos and other media are also available in the Becker Medical Library Catalog.

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory ; produced by Atlantic Video
Productions.
QH450.2 D57 2000. 1 videocassette (59 min., 5 sec.) : sd., col. ;
1/2 in. Speaker, James D. Watson. The structure of DNA proposed
by James Watson and Francis Crick in 1953 was one of the most
important scientific discoveries of the twentieth century,
transforming biology, giving medicine new impetus, and providing
a foundation for the new industry of biotechnology. James
Watson's best-selling memoir of the events leading to this
discovery, The double helix, has enthralled millions of readers
since its publication in 1968. In this videotaped lecture,
recorded live at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in Nov. 1999, Dr.
Watson retraces those events in a very personal reminiscence of
the period and the people involved. This is an account of one of
the great dramas in science, told from the intimate perspective
of a participant who, age 25 at the time of the discovery, has
become one of the intellectual leaders of our time. Watson, James

THE AGE OF AIDS [VIDEORECORDING] / series producer and reporter, Renata Simone ; a co-production of WGBH/Frontline and Paladin InVision Ltd. with Silverbridge Productions Ltd. and Channel 4 ; WGBH Educational Foundation.
1 videodisc (240 min.) : sd., col. ; 4 3/4 in. Originally broadcast in two parts on May 30-31, 2006 as part of the Frontline television series. Narrator, Will Lyman. Part one: producer and director, William Cran ; writers, William Cran, Renata Simone ; camera, Paul Lang ; editors, Steve Audette, David Espar, Joe Frost ; music, Mason Daring. Part two: producer and director, Greg Barker ; writers, Greg Barker, Renata Simone; camera, Frank-Peter Lehmann ; editors, Paul Carlin, Jon Neuburger ; music, Mason Daring. Part one follows the trail of a medical mystery which began in 1981 when five gay men in Los Angeles were diagnosed with a deadly new disease. Traces the international response in the first years of the epidemic, contrasting moments of inspirational leadership with the tragedy of missed opportunities. Reveals the astounding spread of the infection to over 70 million infections in 2006. Part two explores the chasm that emerged between rich and poor following the development of the miraculous "triple cocktail" HIV treatment. While the discovery seemed to signal a new era in which AIDS was no longer a fatal disease, the high price of the drugs meant they were unaffordable to patients in developing nations. Also examines the next wave of the AIDS epidemic in some of the most populous and strategically important nations in the world, including Russia, India and China, and tracks the same pattern of official denial and political indifference that characterized the epidemic in so many other countries.
