Art and Architecture Library Reserves

Course reserves are materials that instructors have set aside in the library for specific classes and assignments. Reserves come in two forms - physical or electronic - and may be located one of two ways. Information for students can be found below. Reserve information for Instructors is also available.

Items on Reserve (i.e., books, print materials, DVDs)

Search the catalog for Course Reserves

Call numbers for reserve items are listed in the WU Libraries' catalog. To locate item information and corresponding call number, search by the course number or instructor's name. The catalog will indicate the call number, loan period and if the item is currently available. Once you locate the call number, bring it to the service desk at the Art & Architecture Library.

Electronic Reserves (Ares)

Ares is a web-based electronic reserves management system. With it you can view course material on the web. You can view electronic content online, but for a book, you will need to check it out from the library where it is available. Ares will indicate the library location for reserve books.

To find materials in Ares, search by department or instructor and then select your course. Ares course sites are password-protected. Ask your instructor for the password.

Do not give the course login or password to anyone not currently enrolled in the class. The following excerpts are from the University Computer Use Policy:

"Do not access or intercept files or data of others without permission. Do not use the password of others or access files under false identity… Systems managers or other individuals within an academic or administrative unit may be empowered to suspend some or all privileges associated with computer use in cases of misuse or threat to the integrity of all or part of the University's information management resources."

See the full policy at: http://www.wustl.edu/policies/compolcy.html.

PRINTING PROBLEMS: Printing Adobe PDFs will sometimes result in pages that print as mirror images. This is a compatibility issue with your print driver. The solution is to use a Postscript driver. If you can't easily change to a Postscript driver, try the Adobe Acrobat printing option "Print as Image". To do this:

-Click on "File" and then "Print"
-Locate the option called "Print as Image" and select (sometimes found under "Advanced" depending on version)
-Click on "OK" to begin printing.

SAFARI ACCESS PROBLEMS: If you are using the Safari web browser and cannot login, logout, or access coursepages, please try the following instructions:

  1. Open your Safari browser, and then select "Preferences" from the "Safari" menu.
  2. In the "Preferences" window click the "Security" icon and then the "Show Cookies" button.
  3. Click the "Remove All" button and then click "Done".
  4. Close the "Preferences" window and then quit Safari.
  5. Restart Safari and try to recreate the problem by logging in or going to a coursepage.
