  • Spring Break Hours, March 8-16, 2008:
    Saturdays - Sundays closed; Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm
  • EndNote Web introduction class, Wednesday, 3/19, 5:00-5:30pm, in the Arc, Level A, Olin Library and many more Olin Library Spring Research Workshops.
  • Strategies for Writing and Publishing Journal Articles, Moore Auditorium (on Medical Campus), series of 3 workshops for faculty, postdocs and graduate students. Free but preregistration requested. Sponsored by the Office of Faculty Affairs and the Office of Post Graduate Affairs.
  • Harvard Faculty Adopts Open-Access Requirement This news has been widely discussed this month, but I thought I needed to mention it in case some of you haven't heard about it. One blogger (T. Scott Plutchak) is "inclined to think that the Harvard vote may be more significant than the passage of the NIH policy." Here are a few links for more information: Chronicle of Higher Education News blog entry | The Case for Open Access (from The Crimson before the Faculty of Arts & Sciences passed the motion) | Harvard to collect, disseminate scholarly articles for faculty (Harvard Univ. Gazette) | More on the Harvard OA mandate (Peter Suber's Open Access News) | Harvard adopts opt-out open-access policy (Nautilus, Nature Publishing Group blog)
  • Is Springer Open Choice (at $3,000/article) required to comply with the NIH public access policy? NO! A few of you have mentioned receiving the promotion from Springer about their Open Choice option, so I thought it was important to write a bit about it. I like the summary that Peter Suber wrote: NIH-funded authors and fee-based OA journals. (Note: TA in the blog means toll-access, OA means open access) Please don't hesitate to ask Ruth Lewis or Cathy Sarli, Becker Library’s Scholarly Communications Specialist, if you are uncertain about how to comply with the NIH policy with one of your publications. We will be happy to find the necessary information.
