Proxy Server Login for Off-Campus Access to many resources below

  • RefWorks: The Libraries have acquired RefWorks for WU users. I expect undergraduates will love this tool for managing citations and possibly even links and fulltext. I'm told conversion from EndNote is easy so faculty and postdocs may want to consider this tool also. I'm especially interested in RefShare which allows you to share your references by making the contents of specific folders or your entire RefWorks database accessible to anyone with an Internet connection. Using the RefShare feature you can create a link to share with others. Users of your collections will be able to download and print your citations, and you can choose to allow people to post comments. I think this may be a easier way to collect and share biology department publications. You'll be seeing more on that later as I begin to figure out this new tool. Library News: RefWorks: Manage Your Citations Online | More info: Manage Cites (Biology Research Guide).
  • Research Guides: Librarians have a new publishing tool for information pages, course guides and any other web communication need. We are calling them Research Guides. Check out the new Biology guide: http://libguides.wustl.edu/biology. Comments and suggestions are welcome!
  • Library PIN discontinued for most library users: For faculty, staff and students, the library now has one username (your WU ID number) and one password for all services, interlibrary loan, renewing or requesting items, off-campus access, etc. The days of figuring out whether to use your PIN or your password are over. Please see http://library.wustl.edu/libhelp/passwordhelp.html for more information. Please ask if you have any questions or concerns.
  • Interesting reading: A "Hippocratic Oath" for graduate students in the life sciences? The Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto, has begun to use an oath for its graduate students. A little more information and the text of the oath are published in Science 320(5883):1587-1588
