Oxford English Dictionary defines "Think Tank" as:
"2. A research institute or other organization providing advice and ideas on national or commercial problems; an interdisciplinary group of specialist consultants. Also in extended (usu. facetious) use. "

Think-tank for the Libertarian Party in the United States.

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
Domestic spending analyses. Excellent sources for Social Work papers.

CIAO: Columbia International Affairs Online
Extensive collections of international think tank working paper texts, international conference proceedings, journal abstracts, book summaries, schedules of events, policy brief texts, economic statistics, and useful links.

Heartland Institute
Based in Chicago. Considers state and local public policy issues. Opposes "big government" solutions. Promotes local decision-making for most issues.

Heritage Foundation
Washington-based conservative think-tank.

Hoover Institution

Hudson Institute
Futurist with a tendency to high-tech solutions for all problems. Only conservative links lead to and from the Hudson Institute.

Institute for Policy Research
Topics studied include poverty, race, and inequality; child, adolescent and family studies; community development; health care; environmental policy; and much, much more.

McKinsey Global Institute
