BDSL Online (Bibliographie der deutschen Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaft The major bibliography for German language and literature. Coverage is from 1985-present. Interface only in German. More info.

  • Can browse by topic for time periods and geographic locations:
  • Good terms to use: Judenvernichtung, Nationalsozialismus, Jude, Juden, Mahnmal
  • Need to use German terms whenever possible.

Historical Abstracts (1955-)
Covers World History from 1450 onwards (excluding Canada and the United States which are covered in America: History and Life. More info.

IBZ Online (1983 - )
Officially titled: Internationale Bibliographie der Zeitschriftenliteratur or International Bibliography of Periodical Literature. Covers the Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts. Interface in English or German. More info.

Annotated Bibliography of Antisemitism (1965- present)
The bibliography includes works published throughout the world about antisemitism -- books, dissertations, master's theses, and articles from periodicals and collections. The title is somewhat of a misnomer: these two excellent databases contain works on all aspects of Jewish life.

MLA International Bibliography (1926 - )
Literature, languages, linguistics, and folklore. More info.

RAMBI: Index to Articles on Jewish Studies (1966- 2001)
A multi-langugage bibliography of articles in Jewish studies and the study of Israel. The records are citations of journal articles, and some books, across all disciplines that have been cataloged by Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Testaments to the Holocaust
From the Wiener Library in London, a database of primary documents and images related to the Holocaust and life in the Third Reich. Fully searchable personal accounts of life in Nazi Germany, along with photos, propaganda materials such as school textbooks, Nazi calendars, anti-Semetic encyclopedias, materials on the Hitler Youth. Can email, print documents and images. Interface in English or German. More info.

Database Searching Tips

  • Use the Advanced Search mode so you can limit to peer-review, language, and publication type
  • For the BDSL and IBZ, try to use German keyword terms over English ones.
  • For the BDSL and IBZ, put in ä, ö, ü (OR ae, oe, ue). For ß, use "ss".
  • Look at subject descriptors in "good" records for hints about other terms to use.
  • To find criticism about a work or film, use both the English and original German titles

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
Very comprehensive educational and scholarly resource for many aspects of Holocaust Studies. Of particular note: Voice/Vision Holocaust Survivor Oral History Archive
Hosted by the Univ. of Michigan Dearborn, an archive of over 300 audio and video interviews of Holocaust survivors.
