European Studies: News Sources

A selected list of major online European news sources and portals. For countries not listed below, search in the sites listed under General. For additional resources, search in the portal sites.

Print resources:
Olin Library subscribes to a number of European periodicals. To check on titles and languages, consult the Library Catalog, Olin's list of newspapers, and Olin's list of foreign language currents awareness sources.

Searching for articles:
Many of the online periodicals listed below provide only limited free access to past issues and articles. To search for specific articles or topics, use LexisNexis Academic and Access World News.

General

• ABYZ News Links: Portal to online news sources from around the the world. Mainly newspapers but includes links to other broadcast news media.
• Kidon Media Link: Portal to over 15,000 newspapers and other news sources from around the world.
• Onlinenewspapers.com: Portal to newspapers from around the world.
• World-newspapers.com: Europe: European newspapers, magazines and news webites in English.
• WESS Selected Western European News and Newspapers: Portal to news sources selected by academic librarians.

Austria

• Österreichischer Rundfunk: National radio and television broadcaster.
• Die Presse (Vienna): Daily newspaper with searchable archive.
• PROFIL Online: Weekly news magazine.
• Der Standard (Vienna): Daily newspaper. Registration required for archive searching.
• German-language newspapers and other news sources: Portal to Austrian, German, and Swiss (German) newspapers and broadcast media.

Europe

• EU Observer: An independent news website about the European Union.
• EuroNews: News in seven languages from European TV, includes texts and video files.
• Eurozine: An independent network of European cultural journals which publishes original texts as well as articles and reviews from its partner magazines in various European countries.
• Inside Europe: From the BBC, news about the EU and Europe from a British perspective. Includes background information on the EU, its institutions, and member states.

France

• France 2: Television broadcaster.
• France 3: Television broadcaster. Includes video segments. Access to regional news.
• French Language News and Magazines: From MIT Libraries, an extensive portal to French-language news periodicals from a number of countries.
• French Studies Web: Newspapers & Other News Sources:Listing of French-language news sources.
• Libération (Paris): Daily newspaper.
• Le monde (Paris): Daily newspaper. Limited access to past articles.
• Newspapers--France: Lists of links to newspapers in France.
• Radio France International: Available in a number of languages.

Germany

• Deutsche Welle: German radio broadcaster. Available in 30 languages. Includes video and audio streaming and archived programs.
• Deutschland Nachrichten: A weekly compilation of news stories from the German Information Center. English version: This Week in Germany
• FAZ-Net: Online version of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, a daily newspaper. Fee-based archive.
• German-language newspapers and other news sources: Portal to Austrian, German, and Swiss (German) newspapers and broadcast media.
• Paperball: die Newssuche: Portal that allows searching German-language newspapers.
• Der Spiegel (Hamburg): Bi-monthly news magazine. Also has English news website.
• Süddeutsche Zeitung (Munich): Daily newspaper.
• Die Welt (Berlin): Daily newspaper.
• Die Zeit (Hamburg): Weekly newspaper. Includes archive of back issues of the Internet version.

Italy

• Agenzia Italiana di Informazione / Italian News Agency (ANSA) Daily news. Also has News in English.
• Corriere della serra (Milan): Daily newspaper.
• La repubblica (Rome): Daily newspaper. Archive searchable with registration.
• La stampa (Turin): Daily newspaper.
• WESS Italian Studies Web: Newspapers and Periodicals: Portal.

Spain

• ABC (Madrid): Daily newspaper.

• Dagens Nyheter (Stockholm): Daily newspaper.
• The Local: Sweden's News in English: Also includes general information about life in Sweden.
• Scandinavian Newspapers and Other News Sources: Portal to news sources in Scandinavian countries.
• Svenska Dagbladet (Stockholm): Daily newspaper.
• Sveriges Radio: National radio broadcaster. Includes audio files to prorgrams and webcasts.

Switzerland

• German-language newspapers and other news sources: Portal to Austrian, German, and Swiss (German) newspapers and broadcast media.
• NZZ Online (Neue Zürcher Zeitung): Daily newspaper, in German. Archive fee-based.
• Swissinfo: Affiliated with Swiss Radio International, news and information about Switzerland. Available in nine languages.
• Tages-Anzeiger (Zürich): Daily newspaper, in German.
• Tribune de Genève: Daily newspaper, in French.
• www.zeitung.ch: Portal that allows searching Swiss newspapers and other media.

UK
