2008 Spring - Olin Library Research Workshops

Jumpstart Your Research! and discover new and more efficient ways of searching the Libraries' online catalog, databases and Internet for information for class assignments and research papers in just 30 minutes. The 30 minute sessions will include a brief presentation and time will be allocated for questions. Librarians will also be available to help with your topic. All workshops will be held in Olin's Arc Lab. Seating limited to 24. Register online or just drop in.

Searching the Library Catalog - Tuesday, 2/26, 4:30-5:00pm; - Wednesday, 2/27, 5:00-5:30pm
Learn new features just introduced this Fall for searching the catalog. Also, explore when to use a broad method of searching like keyword searching and when it is best to use a more specific method of searching like subject searching. Use advanced search features and "My Catalog".

Find It! Database Searching Made Simple - Tuesday, 3/4, 4:30-5:00pm; - Wednesday, 3/5, 5:00-5:30pm
Explore new ways of using Find It!. Search up to ten databases, including the library catalog, at the same time. Learn to use the latest new features in QuickSearch, Multisearch and My Space.

Google Scholar - Tuesday, 3/18, 4:30-5:00pm
Use Google Scholar to streamline your research, locate articles that WU owns and find key papers in your field.

EndNote Web - Tuesday, 3/18, 5:00-5:30pm; - Wednesday, 3/19, 5:00-5:30pm
Learn how this freely available software can help you to organize and format citations in your research paper.

Popular Culture Resources - Tuesday, 3/25, 4:30-5:00pm
Discover library resources that cover topics in popular culture. Learn how to search for digital images of advertisements, comics, fashion, television and more. Locate primary and secondary documents in mass media and scholarly publications.

Beyond Wikipedia - Reference Sources Online - Wednesday, 3/26, 5:00-5:30pm
Discover when it is best to use Wikipedia and when it is best to use other library
e-reference encyclopedias.

Finding Newspaper Articles - Tuesday, 4/1, 4:30-5:00pm
