2007 Olin Library Research Workshops

Jumpstart Your Research! and discover new and more efficient ways of searching the Libraries' online catalog, databases, and Internet for informantion for class assignments and research papers. The one-hour sessions will include a 30 minute presentation and 30 minutes for questions, and help from librarians with your topic. All workshops will be held in Olin's Arc Lab. Seating limited to 24.

Find It! Made Simple - 10/9, 1:00-2:00pm
Explore new ways of using Find It!. Search up to ten databases, including the library catalog, at the same time. Learn to use the latest new features in QuickSearch, Multisearch, and My Space.

EndNote Web - 10/9, 3:00-4:00pm
Learn how this freely available software can help you to organize and format citations in your research paper.

Quick Tips on Searching the WU Catalog - 10/11, 110:00-11:00am
Learn new features just introduced this Fall for searching the catalog. Also, explore when to use a broad method of searching like keyword searching and when it is best to use a more specific method of searching like subject searching. Use advanced search features and "My Catalog".

Popular Culture Resources - 10/23, 12:00-1:00pm
Discover library resources that cover topics in popular culture. Learn how to search for digital images of advertisements, comics, fashion, television, and more. Locate primary and secondary documents in mass media and scholarly publications.

Google Scholar - 10/25, 10:00-11:00am
Use Google Scholar to streamline your research, locate articles that WU owns, and find key papers in your field.

Finding Newspaper Articles - 10/30, 3:00-4:00pm
Search for newspaper articles which provide current news stories, a snap shot of daily life at a given time, and editorials which present various opinions on a specific issue.

Government Publications - 11/1, 1:00-2:00pm
Discover how to easily locate information produced by government agencies, including the U.S. Government, the European Union, and the United Nations.

Citing Sources - 11/8, 6:00-7:00pm
Avoid plagiarism and easily give credit to the authors of the works you use in your research paper and projects. Locate citation formats for all types of information sources (print, media, electronic, Internet, etc).
