Google Book Search
Is the book you need LIB USE ONLY (Library Use Only = cannot be checked out) or does someone else have it checked out? Give Google Book Search a try.
- Here's an example of a title that is LIB USE ONLY.
- Now try searching in Google Books for the same title. By clicking next to Full View Books on the search screen you'll find only those titles whose full content is available.
- Find out more about Google Book Search.
Note: Only books in the public domain -- books whose copyrights have expired -- have the download feature available. This typically means books published before 1923.
Google Scholar
"Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature." Want to find out more? Take a look at About Google Scholar.
- Here's a sample author search. Note: To be more precise, you'll want to click on the appropriate author's name on the left (otherwise, Google Scholar searches all instances where the author's name appears, regardless of its placement in the document.).
- Once you've located an article you would like to view, click on the title of the article. If this does not yield the full text, click on Get it! @ WU to see if WU owns access to the document.
- Other helpful features of Google Scholar are its links to "Cited by" and "Related Articles."
Note: Google Scholar can be very helpful when searching for incomplete citations to journal articles and even books.
