May 11, 2004--Level 1: Immediately inside the main entry is a display of names of donors to Olin Library, each etched on a glass plate. The text on the wall reads "Olin Benefactors."

May 11, 2004--Level 1: The Ginkgo Reading Room which looks out onto the Ginkgo Walk, features soft seating; exhibits from the library's collections; and a portrait of Howard Nemerov over the fireplace. Howard Nemerov, Edward Mallinckrodt Distinguished University Professor Emeritus of English, enjoyed the Ginkgo Walk and a hand-drafted copy of his poem The Consent, about the fall of ginkgo leaves, is hung outside the entrance to the reading room.

May 11, 2004--south of Olin: The statue of George Washington is a reproduction of one sculpted by Jean-Antoine Houdon from 1785-88. It was dedicated to the memory of William M. Van Cleve on May 7 when Olin Library was rededicated.

May 11, 2004--south of Olin: The completed south face of the renovated Olin Library appears tranquil and the bronze figure of President Washington seems prepared and confident. Whether students experience the same tranquility confidence may depend on how well they have prepared for their finals.
