November 12, 2002--Level 1: At the concrete ceiling, a pipe fitter (working to earn his journeyman plumber status) attaches a pipe anchor for new copper pipes. This area will hold a reading room as well as classroom space for Special Collections.

November 12, 2002--Level 1, Atrium: A worker (on stair landing) assesses progress in the atrium, while a demolition worker (in green safety vest) on the floor of the atrium, winds up a compressor hose used to power a jack hammer.

November 12, 2002--Atrium: Looking into the atrium, a temporary wood rail guards the ledge of Level 2. Demolition continues along the ledge in the foreground, while scaffolding is erected underneath the ledge in the background. Iron beams atop the scaffolding support the concrete forms which will reshape the ledge.

November 12, 2002--Atrium: Two carpenters cut plywood to build a support for concrete forms around the edges of Level 2. Fitting the concrete forms to the existing building requires multiple trips up the scaffolding and down to the cutting area.

November 21, 2002--Level A: In a graduate group study, a carpenter trims a piece of walnut door molding on a table saw.
