November 6, 2002--Level 1: Formerly offices for administrative staff, this space will house the Special Collections after it is renovated. Plumbers (far left) install new sanitary water pipes, while pipe fitters (center front) drain old heating pipes at the ceiling before removing them. Electricians (center back) have begun to install wire conduit, while glaziers continue to caulk and seal the glass outer wall. |

November 6, 2002--Level 1, Atrium: On the power lift, a worker smooths off the concrete ledge of Level 2 with a jackhammer and spade. Below carpenters build wood forms, while those above start to install the forms where concrete will be poured for a new ledge. |

November 12, 2002--Level A: The main north-south aisle is filled with materials for drywall workers, carpenters, and painters as they focus on the carrels along the north wall. The ceiling is painted white to reflect the light and increase overall illumination in the stacks. |

November 12, 2002--Level A: A drop ceiling extends over the main east-west aisle; above the ceiling is space for telecommunications wire. Wireless and wired computing is available in many areas, including the study rooms and carrels, on each renovated level. |
