Key Improvements

• Bring the most-used services (circulation, reference, reserves, interlibrary loan, and shelving) together in one central location -- The Help Center
• Expand the main level out to the exterior column line
• Give students a long-desired 24-hour study space
• Make beverages and a limited menu available
• Add computer ports at most seats throughout the library
• Move Special Collections to the main level
• Expand space for library exhibitions
• Establish a Technology Center -- The Arc
• Repaint, recover, refloor, or refinish all surfaces
• Rebuild restrooms
• Replace worn furniture and equipment
• Expand shelving capacity
• Increase the number of windows
• Add public access lockers

In order for Olin Library to stay open throughout its entire renovation and expansion, work proceeded floor by floor, starting with the lowest level (two floors below grade). Materials and staff shifted from one area to another, as work went forward. This phased renovation schedule meant areas reopened in a sequence rather than all at once.
