Mohandas K. Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Daisaku Ikeda, three men from three different cultures and continents, have followed a common path of profound dedication and achievement in improving the lives of all people. Gandhi, King, Ikeda: A Legacy of Building Peace conveys the themes and pivotal principles in the lives of these giants of the 20th century.

The exhibit panels feature colorful photographs, inspiring quotes and factual information about Mohandas K. Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Daisaku Ikeda. While walking around the free-standing, s-curved walls, viewers can take in the wondrous lives of these three individuals.

Gandhi, King, Ikeda: A Legacy of Building Peace was created with the hope that by examining the lives of these great figures, viewers will find these lofty ideals and principles within the grasp of their own daily existence. For it is within the mundane realm of daily living that Mohandas K. Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Daisaku Ikeda have sought to forge an existence filled with dignity, freedom and happiness for all people.

Carter is the founder and first dean of the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel and Professor of Religion at Morehouse College. He has written numerous books and articles, including Walking Integrity: Benjamin Elijah Mays as Mentor to Martin Luther King, Jr. (1998) and Global Ethical Options, in the Tradition of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Daisaku Ikeda (2001).

These events are free and open to the public. They are sponsored by the Religious Studies Program in Arts & Sciences.

Gandhi, King, Ikeda Award Recipient, Judy Bentley

This award was created by Morehouse College to celebrate the lives and work of three individuals from three different cultures and countries whose common path of profound dedication to peace has been recognized internationally.

The award is conferred upon Ms. Bentley for her exemplary leadership of American society for peace and community. Ms. Bentley's efforts are being recognized for her dedication towards the health and well-being of St. Louis' underprivileged and uninsured, who are underserved by the nation's health care system. Ms. Bentley's compassionate hand of care and comfort has enabled thousands to receive treatment that they otherwise would not have enjoyed.

The presentation of Judy Bentley's award will be made at the awards ceremony commemorating the opening of the Gandhi, King, Ikeda: A Legacy of Building Peace exhibition, Monday, April 16th, 2007, 4:00 p.m., in Room 214 of Wilson Hall on the Danforth Campus of Washington University. A reception will follow the ceremony in Olin Library at 5:45 p.m.
