The Neureuther Student Book Collection Competition is made possible by the generous contributions of Carl Neureuther, a 1940 graduate of the Washington University. To encourage a life-long love of reading for pleasure, Mr. Neureuther funded a library endowment for the purchase of literature. The endowment adds hundreds of books to the Libraries' collections every year, and you can browse them by searching the Libraries' catalog: Carl Neureuther Endowed Book Fund.
Like many devoted readers, Mr. Neureuther was also a book collector. The student book collection competition that bears his name makes it possible for Washington University students to share stories of their own passion for reading and for collecting books. How does your personal library reflect your interests and obsessions? How have you gone about building your collection and deciding what to acquire? What was your greatest find? These are only a few of the questions it is possible to explore in submissions to the Neureuther competition.
Book collecting is a pastime that has given pleasure to generations of the "gently mad." If you would like to read more about the history of book collecting and others who share your affliction, here are a few resources to get you started.
