Alliance of Russian and American Women Conference
Women in Business: Alliances for Success
Moscow-Novgorod-Volkhov-St. Petersburg
October 3-13, 1996
*****************************************************************
The Alliance of Russian and American Women (ARAW) is now inviting
panelists, workshop leaders, and mentors to participate in its
October conference series, to be held in four Russian cities. The
conference will assist/advise 200 Russian women entrepreneurs.
Approximately 80% of the recent unemployed in Russia are women,
and the trend is not expected to change soon. Starting a business
of her own is a woman's best chance to support her family. Ameri-
can entrepreneurs and business people have much to offer to these
new entrepreneurs. This announcement is an invitation to partici-
pate in the conference and lead a panel or a workshop.

PROFILE OF ARAW
*****************************************************************
The Alliance of American and Russian Women, Inc. is a nonprofit
organization founded in 1991 in response to the dire poverty and
extreme dislocation which Russian women have suffered as a result
of the economic shifts in the former Soviet Union.
ARAW works closely with the Institute for Entrepreneurial Devel-
opment in St. Petersburg, the Association of Women Entrepreneurs
(in the closed cities region of the Urals and Western Siberia),
and the Novgorod Woman's Business Organizations.
ARAW's mission is to assist Russian women in developing and
managing micro-enterprises, through which they can support them-
selves and their families and participate in the development of
the new market economy. Through ARAW's programs, Russian women
are beginning to understand the power of networking among them-
selves. ARAW is becoming politically active and recognizing that,
working together, women can gain a voice in the political pro-
cess.
